Students investigated phenomena related to soap bubbles using polyhedra made from straws and pipe cleaners.  Geometric vocabulary was learned using the polyhedra models as hands-on manipulatives to reinforce the concepts.  The kids investigated faces, edges, vertices, and angles.

Students practiced the scientific method and incorporated some writing!

Our first activity of the year was called "Saving Sam." It was a teamwork challenge using gummy snacks and paper clips.  Learning to cooperate with someone else to complete a task was not easy!

Supplies

As  mom of 6 and a teacher, I feel the anxiety every August of trying to get all the school supplies together that we need.  It's not easy or fun to shop for those long lists of items, and they aren't cheap!  This year, I don't have a homeroom class to donate supplies to my classroom, and I'm going to be supplying the entire school.  I gathered things over the summer, but we still need some things.  If you can donate some things from the registry to support our STEAM class, we would appreciate it!  If you are not able to donate, please share our registry on social media.  Someone else might be looking for a place to donate some funds. The registry list is at:  http://www.walmart.com/classrooms/lists/438839-STEAM-Science-Technology-Engineering-Arts-Math

We would also welcome volunteers.  Would you like to help with projects or technology?  Are you good at organizing materials, setting them up, or cleaning up?  We are going to have a great year!

Welcome!

2014-2015 is going to be a great year!  It is so exciting to have a STEAM class at Tinker!  If you need to contact me, my email is cakins@mid-del.net  and my school phone number is 739-1630 ext 8422
